In a highly anticipated showdown between two 16-2 heavyweights, No. 2 City College delivered a statement performance on the road, defeating No. 1 Edmondson 72-46 in a matchup that lived up to the hype — at least early.
City wasted no time setting the tone, jumping out to a 10-point lead in the opening quarter and immediately silencing the home crowd. Edmondson responded with strong production from its bench, trimming the deficit to just four midway through the first half and briefly shifting the energy.
But City never lost control.
Behind balanced scoring and disciplined execution, City stretched the margin to 35-25 by halftime. The separation grew even larger in the third quarter, where City’s defensive pressure and pace created consistent scoring opportunities. By the end of the third, the lead had ballooned to 54-36 — and from there, the Knights closed with poise.
City outscored Edmondson 18-10 in the fourth quarter to seal the dominant 26-point victory.
The win wasn’t powered by one star — it was a complete team effort.
Camari Stewart led the way with 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, controlling the tempo and making timely plays. RJ Muhammad added 12 points and 6 assists, helping orchestrate the offense efficiently throughout the night.
Noah Cowan anchored the interior with 12 points and 9 rebounds, while Khari Gregg contributed 10 points and 7 boards in a physical effort inside. Tourean Thompson filled the stat sheet with 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, and Ethan Chinnia chipped in 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists to round out City’s balanced attack.
Six players scored eight or more points — a reflection of City’s depth and unselfish play.
After Edmondson’s bench made it a competitive first half, City’s defensive intensity in the second half proved to be the difference. The Knights limited second-chance opportunities, controlled the glass, and turned defensive stops into transition offense.
In a matchup featuring the top two teams in the rankings with identical records entering the night, City not only secured the win — they sent a message.
With the postseason approaching, Friday’s performance showcased a team capable of defending, sharing the ball, and closing games with maturity.
If this was a preview of what’s to come, City College looks every bit ready for the spotlight.
