Baltimore City College showed championship resilience Friday night,
overcoming an early deficit to defeat Edmondson 66-58 and capture the city title.
Edmondson came out aggressive, setting the tone in the first quarter with physical play and dominance on the offensive glass. The Red Storm surrendered five to six offensive rebounds in the opening period and trailed 24-15 after one quarter.
Despite the early nine-point deficit, City never panicked.
By halftime, the Red Storm had settled in and trimmed the deficit to 36-31. The adjustments began on the defensive end, where City gradually limited Edmondson’s second-chance opportunities and forced tougher looks in the half court.
The game tightened even more in the third quarter, with Edmondson clinging to a 48-44 lead heading into the final period. City had yet to lead, but momentum was beginning to shift.
That shift became official midway through the fourth quarter.
With 5:50 remaining, Jayden Hargrove came up with a crucial steal that ignited the building. The turnover led to an and-one finish by Ethan Chinnia, giving City its first lead of the night at 51-50. It was a defining championship moment — one built on defense, poise, and execution.
From there, the Red Storm closed like champions.
City outscored Edmondson down the stretch, controlled the tempo, and executed in key possessions to secure the 66-58 victory.
RJ Muhammad led the way with 17 points and 3 assists, providing steady offensive production throughout the night. Hargrove added 12 points, including the pivotal fourth-quarter sequence. Khari Gregg contributed 10 points and 3 rebounds, while Chinnia finished with 9 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists — none bigger than the go-ahead three-point play.
After trailing for nearly three and a half quarters, City’s composure and defensive intensity proved to be the difference. The Red Storm absorbed Edmondson’s early physicality, adjusted on the boards, and delivered in winning time.
Championship teams don’t always lead the whole way.
Sometimes, they lead when it matters most.
City College did exactly that. 🏆
